John Mark Hansen

John Mark Hansen, 63, of Burnside Island – Savannah, Georgia, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
He was born to the late Fred Erwin Hansen and Marcella Hansen on November 17, 1950 in Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He grew up on Lake Minocqua then moved to Racine, Wisconsin where he graduated from Saint Catherine's High School. John went on to earn his BA Degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh.
John had a 40 year career in the paper business beginning in Wisconsin and for the past several years was Manager of Operations and Sales for Paper Tigers, Inc. in Savannah, a large paper company serving the US and foreign countries. John was an active member of the Forest City Gun Club, enjoyed water sports and deep sea fishing. He was always the life of the party and his nickname was Dancin Hansen.
John is survived by his adoring wife of 28 years, Lynn, two wonderful daughters, Lesley Hansen of Florida and Melissa Hansen of Georgia, an older brother Ron Hansen and his lovely wife, Eva, of North Carolina, and a nephew and God Son, Kyle Becker. He was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn whose spirit visited him frequently towards the end. He kept up his amazing good spirit and sense of humor til the end.
John, per his wishes, will be cremated and his ashes will be carried by his family to the buoy at Ossabaw Island and scattered there.
John's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Candler Hospital for the compassionate care and support of John and the family during his illness.
A Celebration of John's Life will be Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Forest City Gun Club.
Memorials may be made to the Nancy N. and J. C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion for the research of lung cancer.

I am so very greatful for the time I got to spend with him on the trip to see my sister, Terry and the week I spent with him and Lynn in GA. Dearest Johnny, From the day I first meant you my friend I knew you were one of a kind and I will always have a special place in my heart for you. You taught me a great deal and I will always be great full to have had you as my boss. Thanks so much for all of your support and friendship you have shown both myself and Tyler over these past years and I will think of you often until we meet again. I know we never were able to get that fishing trip pulled off as we had hoped but I promise you that every fish I catch from here on I will think of my dear friend and of course toast to you as well. You will be dearly missed but I can assure you will never be forgotten. I will be seeing you again one day so please have the boat ready to go. I love you John god bless you....

Hey Billy, Wish we could jump off High Rock in the Dells, or sell some ice cream in the campgrounds in our covered wagon, or work on cars together. That's great that your sister Marylin came to visit you. I remember her well. She was the sweet one of the family. You better come visit me when it's my time. Hopefully later than sooner. I still have work to do. Hope you're at peace on the other side. SeeYa my good old friend. Jeff Karls

My condolences to John's family and friends. John hired me nearly 6 years ago and I will never forget him hugging a roll of paper during the interview process as he said ....this is the "juice". He took me under his wing and taught me everything I know about the business. He supported me through good times and bad. He became a great friend as well as the best "boss" I have ever had. I will miss him dearly.

Dear Lynn, Some of my earliest memories are of my "cool" older cousin John Mark from visits with Aunt Sally & Uncle Erv "up north" in Minocqua, WI. John's winning smile and confident air were there from the start. John's flair as a salesman and entrepreneur was evident when he earned cash peddling ice cream treats during his college years at Oshkosh. John liked popular music, and when I was young John humored me on one occasion by playing Roger Miller's hit record "King of the Road" three times in a row. Much later in life we reconnected professionally when he learned I was at Quad Graphics, which sold scrap paper for recycling. John Mark will be missed by many who knew and loved him. May God bless and comfort you, and may John rest in peace, reunited with his mom & dad and sister Marilyn.
